Mountain Bones
A mountain has bones. The rock inside the mountain is its bone, carved layer by layer by hundreds of millions of years of wind. Chinese scholars set stones on their desks and called them gongshi, offering stones; ordinary families stand a stone by the door for steadiness. A stone does not speak — but the moment you see one, you understand what time means.
